“Entre Ríos Symphony Orchestra Performs Passionate Concert with Double Bass Soloists at Gualeguaychú Theater”

On Saturday, May 20, from 8:30 p.m. at the Gualeguaychú Theater, the next concert of the Symphony Orchestra will take place.

The Entre Ríos Symphony Orchestra (OSER), an organization dependent on the Ministry of Culture, will perform a new concert in person at the Gualeguaychú Theater, in the city of Gualeguaychú.

It will be under the direction of the guest director, William Vergara. As soloists there will be the presence of Carolina Melchiori and Abel Rodríguez, both double bass musicians. Works by G. Rossini will be performed, William Tell Opera Overture; G. Bottesini, Pasión Amorosa, for two double basses and orchestra; and LV Beethoven, Symphony No. 6 Op. 68 “Pastoral”.

This concert is organized by the Secretary of Culture of Entre Ríos and the Rodolfo García Library, accompanying areas of the Municipality of Gualeguaychú. Admission will be free on a first-come, first-served basis.

It should be noted that this concert season of the current year is the 75th of the Entre Ríos Symphony Orchestra, a pioneering institution on the Argentine coast, created on June 30, 1948 as the Symphony Orchestra of the Provincial Conservatory of Music and Performing Arts.

William Vergara (guest conductor)

Graduated as conductor from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in England and from the International University of La Rioja. He has studied orchestral, operatic and ballet improvement with Emmanuel Siffert (Switzerland), Luis Gorelik (Argentina), Carlos Vieu (Argentina), Rodolfo Fischer (Chile), Roberto Montenegro (Uruguay), Pascual Osa (Spain) and Miguel Angel García. Canamero (Spain). He has worked as a guest conductor in important orchestral groups in Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Spain, and Ecuador, where he has also given keynote talks, classes, and conferences, collaborating as a guest professor at the main festivals in force in Ecuador. He worked as principal conductor at the head of the Loja Symphony Orchestra and the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra, as well as a guest in Ecuador’s main symphony organizations. His activity as mentor, founder and director of all youth and children’s orchestral activity in the city of Cuenca over the past decade earned him the Francisco Paredes Herrera medal, the highest award in the arts awarded by the Municipality of Cuenca-Ecuador for his contribution in the artistic development of the Azuaya capital as well as the Rudecidno Inga Vélez Presea of ​​the Prefecture of Cañar in 2021 and the artistic merit award of the Municipality of Bilbian in 2020. From his position as Orchestral Director he has promoted the development of the opera as well as ballet projects and children’s opera giving a particular boost to the young soloists of his country as well as the premiere of works by prominent Ecuadorian and Latin American composers. artistic activities as Principal Director of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Cuenca together with his permanent activity as a teacher, disseminator and cultural manager.

Carolina Melchiori (double bass player)

Carolina graduated from the School of Music No. 9901 in Santa Fe (Prof. Norberto Juez). In the USA she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Georgia (Prof. M. Masciadri) and her Ph.D. from Michigan State University (Prof. W. Budrow), where she was a fellow and teaching assistant at both universities. Carolina was also a professor of double bass at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and Allegheny College and served as leader of the Athens and Midland Symphony Orchestras. She worked at the UGA String Project and was a member of the ARCO chamber ensemble. She attended courses taught by renowned bassists such as Petracchi, Martin, Levinson, Bradetich and the “Elite Soloist Program” at the University of North Texas. Carolina has given concerts and taught courses in different countries. She received First Prize from the Mozarteum Santa Fe (2000), Second Prize from the UGA ASTA Competition (2004) and the UGA OrchestraConcertoCompetition (2004) and was a semifinalist in the 2009 International Society of Bassist Solo Competition. Carolina participated in record recordings and wrote an article about the Argentine double bass player Salvador Amato that was published in the American magazine BASS WORLD. In Argentina, she was a professor of the UADER Double Bass and Chamber Music chairs from 2012 to 2019. Carolina is currently a Double Bass professor at the UNL Higher Institute of Music and Double Bass Soloist by competition of the Entre Ríos Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Fe Provincial Symphony Orchestra.

Abel Rodríguez (double bass player)

At the age of ten he began his double bass studies with Professor Norberto Juez at the School of Music No. 9901, in Santa Fe. He joined the Children’s Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of said School. He participated in various improvement courses given by teachers Humberto Carfi, Salvador Amato, Agnes Stradner, Milton Masciadri, Francesco Petracci, KlaussStoll, among others. In 1999 he performed as a soloist in the closing recital of the course that is organized annually by the University of Santa Maria in Vale Veneto (Brazil). She is also a member of the orchestra formed on that occasion as first double bass She has performed as a soloist with the Provincial Youth Orchestra of Santa Fe and with the Symphony Orchestras of Entre Ríos, Rosario and Santa Fe; in different scenarios of Santa Fe, Jujuy, Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires. In 1997 he won first prize in the strings category of the sixteenth Selection of Young Music Students of the Mozarteum Competition in Santa Fe, Salzburg branch. In March 1998 he completed his double bass studies at the Music School No. 9901. In July 2000 He completed his studies at the School of Music No. 9901, obtaining the title of music teacher. In October 2002 he was the only Argentine double bassist selected to participate in the preparatory seminar for auditions given by teachers Ingrid Zur and Jorge Heder from the Escuela Superior de Music dependent on the University of Frankfurt (Germany) at the Teatro Colón. He has participated in various chamber groups playing alongside musicians such as Pablo Saraví, Alberto Lepage, Claudio Baraviera, KlaussStoll, among others. He was a member of the Los Espejos Chamber Orchestra. In September 2005, he won the position of Alternate Soloist of the Cordoba Symphony Orchestra by competition. In July 2009 he took a course with Maestro Klauss Stoll, first soloist of the Berlin Philharmonic, and was distinguished by Mr. as “The Enrico Caruso of the Double Bass”; being invited to play with him, in the closing recital of the course. In 2016 he won the position of deputy soloist of the Entre Ríos Symphony, a position he holds until today. He is also a member of the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra and teaches at the Municipal Lyceum and at the Provincial Music School No. 9901 in the city of Santa Fe.
