Epidemiological situation in the DRC: health services mobilized for the response in the affected provinces

In North Kivu, a few cases of measles have been reported in eighteen health zones. The response in connection with medical care has begun. Health authorities and their partners have made much greater efforts to ensure the response in the region. Teams from the World Health Organization and Doctors Without Borders are already in the process of acquiring the routine vaccine to organize a vaccine response in these areas.

Other similar cases have also been recorded in the provinces of Tshopo, Sankuru as well as Lomami where there are some outbreaks in certain health zones. Medical personnel are mobilized and deployed in the affected areas. The government of the Republic and its partners are already hard at work to increase vaccination coverage and put an end to the endless cycles of measles epidemics in the country.

Cases of meningitis reported in the province of Tshopo

Biomedical analyzes confirm new cases of meningitis in the territory of Banalia, in the province of Tshopo, where five samples have already been reported positive. Thirty others are being analyzed at the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB). In the event that ten samples test positive, the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention will therefore be able to officially declare the presence of the epidemic in this part of the Republic.

With regard to typhoid fever, about twenty-four people died out of more than seven hundred cases recorded, between October and February last, in the health zone of Panzi, territory of Kasongolunda, province of Kwango. Doctors Without Borders and the INRB have already intervened and a decrease in the number of cases has been observed. A national team will descend on the spot in a few days for in-depth investigations and to support the response.

Regarding monkeypox, Tshopo, Tshuapa and Sankuru are the provinces that record a large number of cases. The response is organized locally. Already, the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention has deployed an INRB team in the Tshopo for an investigation which will determine the exact causes of the outbreak of this disease.
