This Saturday, the president of the Legislative Assembly, Ernesto Castro, announced that the Salvadoran tennis player, Marcelo Arévalo, will receive recognition for raising the name of El Salvador by having been crowned champion in men’s doubles at Roland Garros.

«Chelo Arévalo demonstrated today that nothing is impossible for Salvadorans who fight and love what they do. Chelo played with his heart and put the name of our country at the top. This coming Monday, I will propose that he be recognized as a Most Meritorious Son of El Salvador,” Castro said on his Twitter account.

Earlier, Castro described the triumph of Arévalo as “Historic” and “Salvadoran Pride”, who, along with the Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer, won the doubles final and became champions in the prestigious tournament. He being the first Central American to win the Grand Slam.
