China has launched a campaign to rally the strength of academics and experts to promote the popularization of high-quality science in the country.
At the launching ceremony of the “Science and China†lecture tour of academics and experts, held on September 2, a proposal was issued calling on Chinese members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) its acronym in English) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) to play a leading role in the cause of scientific dissemination at the national level and promote exchanges and cooperation at the international level.
Under the initiative, more than 1,000 academics from the two institutions will participate in more than 1,000 scientific popularization activities every year and tell the stories of China’s innovation.
In the first of these activities, also held on September 2, eight academics from the CAS and the CAE presented reports on astronomy, geography, life and information.
The lecture tour began in December 2002, and since then more than 2,000 scientific dissemination activities have been carried out throughout the country.
