But the semi-final draws do not bode well for Switzerland. Toggenburg’s Remo Forrer has to assert himself against countries like Israel, the Netherlands and Azerbaijan.
Two months before the 67th Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023 is held, all 37 participants have now been determined. Only in the the Swiss representative published last week Remo Forrer (21) his song “Watergun”, with which he will compete in the music competition in Liverpool. Most recently, the finale of the popular “Melodifestivalen” in Sweden and the preliminary round in Portugal were pending. The interpreters for Georgia and Armenia have already been decided, and the songs are to be released in March.
The 2023 ESC semifinals are scheduled for May 9th and 11th. Remo will with his anti-war power ballad compete in the first round, but the competition is fierce. As the draw shows, Switzerland must assert itself against strong countries such as Portugal, the Netherlands, Israel, Sweden and Azerbaijan – all winners of the past decade. This could already make it difficult to reach the final.

Experts and betting shops – who are considered a reliable barometer – see Sweden with the musician Loreen and her song “Tattoo” as the big favorite this year. The 39-year-old was able to take the victory and the glass microphone home with her in 2012 with the worldwide hit “Euphoria”. Käärijä’s «Cha Cha Cha» is currently in second place. The metal rap song is reminiscent of Lordi and gives Finland a good starting point. After last year’s win, Ukraine ranks third among bookmakers with the duo Tvorchi and the electro song «Heart Of Steel». Switzerland is currently predicted to come in 14th this year.
