The pressure on Lebanon’s ex-central bank governor is increasing
Investigations are underway against Riyadh Salameh on suspicion of money laundering. The first countries have now imposed sanctions on him.
The former head of the Lebanese central bank, Riad Salameh, is under massive pressure on suspicion of massive money laundering, abuse of office, embezzlement and self-enrichment. On August 10, judicial authorities in the US, Canada and the UK imposed sanctions on Salameh, his brother Raja, former assistant Marianne Hoayek and his son Nady. Washington and London have also put Riyadh’s former lover, Ukrainian Anna Kosakova, on the sanctions list.
