Indonesian women’s singles badminton player, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, admitted that she lacked composure and focus when facing Japan in the final group phase match of the 2024 Uber Cup at Chengdu Hi Tech Zone Sports, Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China, Wednesday, May 1 2024. Ester had to admit Japanese women’s singles lead Aya Ohori after giving up 21-14, 20-22, 18-21 in 74 minutes.

“Sorry I can’t contribute points to the team. “I thought the game was pretty good, but perhaps there were some mistakes, such as lack of focus, while the opponent played more maturely,” said Ester after the match.

The first game went quite quickly for Ester who seemed to dominate the match. Ester continued to pressure the opponent through fast play and balls that were difficult to return. The world number 38 in women’s singles won easily 21-14.

Ester’s hard efforts continued in the second game by still trying to maintain her lead even though she was behind at the start of the game. The score was tight again until Ohori took an 18-16 lead to force a rubber game after winning 22-20.

“At the start of the first game, the opponent made a lot of mistakes, but he was able to get out of that pressure in the next game,” said Ester.

In the third game, the battle for points was fierce again. Both players apply more or less the same approach as the previous game. Ester looks more confident in playing aggressively.

However, Ohori, who appeared more aggressive, was able to restore the situation to put Japan ahead 2-1 in this final group phase match.

“I didn’t hold my focus enough. “There were several times when I was unstable with my game when I was scoring points,” said Ester.

“The opponent played attacking and fast, and I tried to play fast too. But less able to control. I have to improve my focus, my way of playing to be less hasty and more calm.” he said.
