“The suspension will not be extended until 2024,” Gentiloni (photo) told journalists in Cernobbio (Italy) on Saturday. He expects an agreement on this by the end of the year. Budget rules for EU members have been suspended since 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Ukraine war.
According to the pact, EU members must limit their annual new debt to a maximum of 3 percent of gross domestic product. In addition, total debt must not exceed 60 percent of gross domestic product.
