2024-01-03 12:14:06

“In line with the diamond ban we introduced with the 12th sanctions package, the EU today lists Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond mining company, together with its CEO,” said Josep Borrell , High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs, on

This decision follows an announcement made by the G7 last December. The group of nations, which includes Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, had indicated they wanted to make it more difficult to import diamonds from Russia.

To supervise import restrictions, the G7 estimated that a system should also be put in place to better track diamonds and check whether or not they come from Russia.

The new measures would be implemented during 2024.

Alrosa has not commented on the decision at this time.
