“We are very pleased with the joint EU-Tunisia statement adopted today. This is an important first step towards the creation of a real partnership with the EU, which can deal with the migration crisis, but also with the integrated development of the two shores of the Mediterranean”, declared the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, at the end of the meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, Sunday at the Carthage Palace, with President Kaïs Saïed.

“We now have a great opportunity between now and the European Council meeting at the end of the month”…”We must all continue to work hard to succeed in signing a memorandum between Europe and Tunisia which can lay the foundations for a new page in the history between Europe and Tunisia”.

“We are therefore ready to host an international conference on migration and development in Rome, which we discussed with President Saied, as one more step in this journey that we have embarked on together and, of course, we consider this work is also useful to help Tunisia in its negotiations with the IMF for the conclusion of a framework agreement which remains a priority for the stability and growth of the country”.
