European elections: Tough battle between SYRIZA and PASOK for second place 2024-05-09 02:39:24

Koumoundourou and Harilaou Trikoupis are waiting for the opinion polls after Thomas’ Sunday in order to determine positives and negatives and readjust their tactics, in the last thirty days before the European elections, in order to win the battle of the Center-Left.

Stefanos Kasselakis will continue the politics of TikTok, the overpromotion and his… unmediated contact with the citizens. With the same “buzzword” clichés of Corfu, where he spent the Easter days, asking for the support of the citizens to “break” eggs and saying at the Corfu Naval Station that his speech is not “wooden” because he himself does not need anything. wooden’ etc.

SYRIZA is consistently second in the polls but does not appear to be able to make the leap, while its leader’s weak prime ministerial profile remains a problem. The… new face of the party, this mixture of apolitical populism and… modern anti-systemism, attracts the interest of the “special public” with its unstable electoral behavior, but repels the party officials and the voters of the Center and the Left.

“The new SYRIZA is what we call the modern Left, which comfortably covers the entire Center-Left”, said Stefanos Kasselakis in an interview with Euractiv. The opinion polls show that with such statements he cannot convince either the voters of the Center or the voters of the Left, while it seems that the fact that he is facing issues of opacity with the smell of corruption, which he has not been in a hurry to clarify, is also costing him. As for the European elections, the Kasselakis-Tsipras rift is not expected to cause “aftershocks” and everyone is waiting for the “treasury” on the evening of June 9 to make their moves, while in Koumoundourou they are worried about the dynamics of the New Left which shows that it can cross the threshold of entering the European Parliament by electing at least one MEP.

The situation is similar in PASOK. Nikos Androulakis is openly targeting disaffected SYRIZA voters and this has caused tremors in the party. At the same time, however, it also aims at the citizens of the Center, who, moderate in their political views, are not attracted by Kasselakis’ denunciation speech.

In Harilaou Trikoupi they believe that the polls will not be confirmed and PASOK will come second and not SYRIZA. They base their optimism on the citizens of the Center who want to send to the government but are not attracted to Kasselakis’ SYRIZA and on the disaffected SYRIZA voters. They believe that in terms of the former they will welcome more than the Democrats of Andreas Loverdos and in terms of the latter more than the New Left of Alexis Haritsis and Efi Ahtsioglou.

Party officials, however, admit that the profile of Nikos Androulakis does not convince those who move between participation and abstention, while in polls he still “pays” for the political choices on the issue of the operation of universities and on the marriage of same-sex couples.

Also, there are executives who accuse the president of PASOK of not “cleaning up” the situation with the dissenters and this attitude of his has strengthened the debate about his low leadership skills.

What is certain, however, is that on the evening of June 9, there will also be a “fund” in PASOK, as officials who share common concerns about the future of the party are waiting and organizing to intervene, if the result is not the desired one.
