The European Investment Bank announced a €10 million loan to Madagascar in a move aimed at developing and building solar mini-grids in rural villages.

The EIB statement stated that small power grids provide residents of remote areas in rural villages with access to clean energy at affordable prices, in addition to spreading energy to private homes and businesses, schools, health centers and public places, thus boosting the local economy and improving health, safety and education.

The statement indicated that solar energy networks consist of solar energy stations, energy storage systems, a distribution line and a meter for each customer, and can provide electricity without interruption, as an additional 120 villages have been identified in 17 regions in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy in Madagascar and the Rural Electrification Development Agency.
