The Swiss have successfully started the European Championships in Munich. The three duos have won their opening match and are therefore already in the round of 16.
Nina Brunner/Tanja Hüberli, Menia Bentele/Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré thus have the possibility of qualifying directly for the round of 16 on Wednesday by winning their second group match.
Brunner and Hüberli shine
Brunner/Hüberli are the defending champions and since their second place at the ProTour tournament last week in Hamburg have been among the favorites for the gold medal. The players from central Switzerland performed brilliantly in their first task on the way to a second consecutive European title. Brunner/Hüberli won in two sets against the Germans Kira Walkenhorst/Louisa Lippmann.
If Brunner / Hüberli, “only” seeded No. 4, had a little trouble getting rid of the Olympic champion Walkenhorst, back on the circuit, and her partner Lippmann in the first set (21-19), there was no longer any doubt about the winner of this meeting in the second leg. Anouk Vergé-Dépré, 2020 European champion, and Joana Heidrich’s replacement, Menia Bentele, as well as Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré also won their opening match against a Ukrainian pair.
