As the European summit approaches, pressure increases on Viktor Orban. Several European leaders have taken action: invitation from Emmanuel Macron to Paris last week, phone call from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, message of “unity” launched Monday by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Again on Tuesday, Olaf Scholz affirmed that a “sustainable financial support“was a priority for Berlin and Emmanuel Macron called on the European Union to be”at the meeting of full and lasting support for Ukraine“.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also pleaded Ukraine’s cause. “We want to guarantee stable and substantial funding for Ukraine over the next four years. This will give confidence to investors and hope to Ukrainian fighters. […] Joining our family will be Ukraine’s ultimate victory“, stressed Ursula von der Leyen before the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

For Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Hungarian leader is not putting forward any argument to block Ukraine’s accession. “I asked him to give me a reason, not three, five or ten, but one reason. I’m still waiting for the answer” Zelensky said this Wednesday in Oslo, Norway, where he met with the leaders of the Nordic countries.
