Eurovision 2024 takes place this Saturday, May 11, in Malmö (Sweden) and there are a total of 26 countries that will compete to win the highly prized crystal microphone. One of them is Finland and its representative, Windows95man, with the song ‘No Rules!’.
Windows95man was the winner of ‘Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2024′ (UMK 2024). At the festival, Finland’s pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, managed to get into the viewers’ pockets due to his charisma (the festival jury did not give him a very good score) and the singer managed to take the victory with 313 points in total. thanks to the public, surprising everyone by snatching victory from the great favorite Sara Siipola. By winning ‘UMK 2024’, Windows95man was crowned Finland’s representative for Eurovision 2024.
But behind Windows95man, his stage name, is Teemu Keisteri. The artist was born in Espoo, in 1985, although he currently lives in Helsinki. He is very versatile: visual artist, radio host, dancer, model, entertainer and DJ.
Windows95man embodies the essence of the 90s. Through this representation, the DJ manages to free himself from his shyness and the responsibilities of his daily life as a family man. He rose to fame when the home videos he uploaded to his YouTube channel began to circulate around the world. Even. The Windows95Man character was born in 2013 during a concert at the Flow Festival. His signature artist outfit consists of a pair of tight-fitting shorts made by a friend of Keisteri’s and a Windows95 t-shirt purchased online. Since then, Windows95man has participated in notable events such as the Helsinki New Year celebration in 2022, opening act for Käärijä at the Helsinki Ice Hall and many other events.
‘No Rules!’, theme chosen for Eurovision 2024
On the stage of Eurovision 2024 he is accompanied by vocalist Henri Piispanen. Piispanen is a Finnish dubbing actor, singer and television presenter. In addition to forming part of the Finnish candidacy, Henri is vocalist and bassist of the Finnish band Pasa since 2012.
The duo represents Finland with “No Rules!”, a song that reflects Teemu Keisteri’s motto, present both in his music and in other artistic productions. «In my opinion, all Finns are a little crazy deep down, and I wanted to bring that out more. Now I can share my music with an even larger audience and spread the joyful message of my song,” explains Keisteri.
Keisteri further says that the song’s chorus is so challenging that he had difficulty finding a singer with the technical skill necessary to perform it. Finally, Henri Piispanen was the only one whose voice could meet the demands of the song.
During his performance, with which he attempts to challenge social norms, Windows95Man makes the audience and spectators believe that he is dancing on stage without clothes from the waist down.
