Eurovision: Ukraine’s participation confirmed

Organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest confirmed on Monday that Ukraine will take part in the 2022 edition, scheduled for May 10-14 in Turin, Italy.

Executive producer Simona Martorelli said that the Ukrainian delegation had confirmed its participation and sent all the required documents on time.

“It’s quite admirable, given the situation,” said Martorelli.

The Ukrainian candidate is the Kalush Orchestra, whose musicians will perform a rap lullaby “Stefania”. Addressed to a mother, this song incorporates traditional Ukrainian music and its lyrics include this line: “I will always find my way home even if all the roads are destroyed”.

Artists will attempt to record a video, which all attendees should send to organizers in case they are unable to perform physically on stage at the hugely popular event, watched by tens of millions of viewers worldwide, it said. Mrs Martorelli.

“Luckily they will be able to do that,” she added.

On February 25, the day after the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, the organizer of the competition, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that Russia would be excluded from the event this year.

The competition this year will center on the theme of peace, according to organizers.
