Eurowings pilots begin three-day strike

The pilots of the Eurowings airline begin a three-day strike overnight from Sunday to Monday. The move is expected to result in major air traffic restrictions for the company, including in Switzerland.

According to a call from the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union, the pilots thus intend to obtain a reduction in the workload for the cockpit personnel. The company’s proposals were rejected as insufficient.

Eurowings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, says it is trying to limit the consequences of the strike as much as possible. The carrier aims to ensure a good half of the flights all the same and also counts on the employees who do not participate in the strike.

Eurowings operates an average of 500 flights per day and transports between 50,000 and 70,000 passengers to destinations in Europe. In Switzerland, the company offers many destinations from Zurich and Geneva.

Passengers were asked to inform themselves about the status of their flight and possible alternative offers – and this on the website www.eurowings.com as well as via the Eurowings application.
