Many people have said (in fact, the moderator’s own experience is the same) that Sony Xperia phones are not very good at temperature control. It may be a problem with the use of the SoC, or the software is not well expressed. After all, the temperature control of the new generation of Sony Xperia IV is partially effective. how? This time I found the previous generation Xperia 1 IV to compare how much progress has been made! Are you satisfied with this progress?

Video battery life

In terms of battery life, we tested it by continuously playing YouTube high-definition streaming videos. In the setting part, we turned off the 120Hz high refresh rate display, turned on the video image enhancement function, turned off the automatic brightness at the same time, adjusted the screen brightness and speaker volume to about 50%, and tested it through Wi-Fi. But this time we played continuously for two hours at a stretch, and the original power of both phones was 70%. There is a significant difference in power consumption between the two when playing videos, and the maximum body temperature of the Xperia 1 IV is also higher than that of the Xperia 1 V.

▲After two hours of continuous playback, the Xperia 1 V lost 15% of its power, while the Xperia 1 IV dropped 29%.

▲ After playing the two-hour video, we immediately measured the temperature on the back of the machine. We can also see that the temperature control of the Xperia 1 V on the left is better, while the Xperia 1 IV can rush to 40 degrees just by watching Youtube, which is really enthusiastic.

Advanced Temperature Control Performance Comparison

Unlike the Xperia 1 V, which is equipped with the latest TSMC-processed Qualcomm S8 Gen 2 processor, the previous two generations of Xperia 1 III & IV used the Samsung-processed Qualcomm processor, so the heat is more obvious, and even the early firmware will still Restricted functions will affect the use of the camera, so we will further test the difference in heat generation between Xperia 1 V and Xperia 1 IV through continuous 4K video recording? Will it still limit the use of camera functions?

According to the actual measurement results, the latest Xperia 1 V did not jump out of any reminder of temperature rise during 10 minutes of continuous 4K video recording, nor did it limit the camera function; while Xperia 1 IV jumped out of the temperature overheating warning after the fifth minute of recording. Reminder, but the new firmware no longer restricts the use of camera functions.

After the 10-minute 4K video recording test, the body temperature of the two phones increased. The highest temperature of the Xperia 1 V reached 44.5 degrees on the front and 42.6 degrees on the back; while the highest temperature on the front of the Xperia 1 IV reached 49.5 degrees. The back is 48.6 degrees. It can be seen that in terms of temperature control, the Xperia 1 V equipped with TSMC’s Qualcomm S8 Gen 2 is obviously better than the previous generation, especially in terms of power consumption.

▲ In the continuous 4K video test, at the 5th minute, the previous generation Xperia 1 IV jumped out of the high temperature warning.

▲ After a 10-minute 4K video test, the front and back of the Xperia 1 V both heated up, reaching 44.5 degrees and 42.6 degrees respectively. As for the previous generation of Xperia 1 IV, it is even more obvious, the back of the machine reaches 48.6 degrees, and the front can even reach a maximum of 49.5 degrees!

▲ Temperature control and power consumption performance are often interlocking. The power of the two mobile phones was originally 70%. After the above-mentioned two-hour continuous playback of YouTube videos and 10 minutes of 4K video recording, the Xperia 1 V dropped by 21%. (from 70% to 49%), while Xperia 1 IV has dropped 36% (from 70% to 34%).

It can be seen that the power consumption and temperature control of Xperia 1 V are significantly improved compared with the previous generation.

Summary: Sony Xperia 1 V power control effect has improved

The new Xperia 1 V not only enhances the camera performance, but also brings better temperature control experience. Compared with Xperia 1 IV, the overheating of Sony Xperia 1 V has been improved, and the battery life has been significantly improved. I believe it is related to the adoption of a new processor in Xperia 1 V and the improvement of Sony’s technology. But does this improvement meet the needs of users?
