More than three weeks after the unexpected death of US actor Evan Ellingson, the cause of death has been determined. The 35-year-old died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, a spokesman for the coroner’s office told E! News» confirmed. Ellingson’s family said the actor had been clean for the past three years. But after a dental procedure he was prescribed opioids – and he suffered a relapse.

The “CSI: Miami” actor was found lifeless in the bedroom of his home in the Californian city of Fontana on November 5th. He had repeatedly struggled with drug addiction in recent years. Ellingson was 19 when he began abusing drugs – a downward spiral that followed the drug-related death of his older brother Austin.

The actor spoke openly about his addiction. “When he died of the overdose, it kind of threw me out of control. I would have given anything to get my brother back and I knew I couldn’t.” In 2021, he spent time on a ranch attending a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. His death has now been ruled an accident.
