In July 2020, chief prosecutor Jeong Jin-woong, the chief prosecutor in the ‘Channel A case’, tried to confiscate the iPhone of Prosecutor Han Dong-hoon, who was suspected of involvement.
A prosecutor who wants to steal it, a prosecutor who doesn’t want to steal it…
They were arguing with each other and rolling on the floor.
A prosecutor complained that he had been assaulted by a public official conducting an investigation, and Prosecutor Jung said that he was injured and even released photos of the hospitalization.
The unprecedented case of ‘violent prosecutor’s assault’ went to court.
The first trial acknowledged the assault by Prosecutor Chung, but the appeals court acquitted, saying, “Intentional abuse of the prosecutor’s position is not recognized.”
After 2 years and 4 months of the incident, the Supreme Court’s final judgment was innocent.
It was an accidental situation, but it is difficult to see that it was intentional.
Minister Han said, “As a victim, it’s difficult to understand, but I respect the Supreme Court’s ruling,” but raised an edge toward the investigation team at the time.
“The ruling does not mean that the execution of duties at the time was justified,” he argued, “and we must reflect on it so as not to repeat the mistake.”
At the time, the investigative team was also confronted head-on.
Lee Jung-hyun, the head of the investigation team at the time, pointed out that “Minister Han Dong-hoon did not cooperate with the judicial process, and it was an accidental incident,” but “Minister Han accused it as if it was a malicious violence of power.”
In addition, he insisted that “those who tried to cover up their sins for retaliation must show responsibility.”
