Fans had no idea how the composition actually sounds.

Demis Roussos was one of the few foreign singers who actively performed in the USSR. His compositions enjoyed constant popularity, but most of all, the musician’s fans were delighted with the ballad From Souvenirs to Souvenirs.

The fans were sure: the Greek singer sings regarding souvenirs. The fact is that this is how the name was translated on one of the records with the composition: “From a souvenir to a souvenir”. The name has taken root so much that even a short version appeared among the fans – “Souvenir”. However, the translators made a mistake and left several generations of the inhabitants of the USSR with the wrong idea regarding the song.

In fact, the title translates as “From memory to memory.” And in the text, Roussos admits that he lives only memories of life with his chosen one and cannot come to terms with the fact that she is gone. There is no question of any souvenirs, magnets and postcards in the sad composition.
