Evo Morales expresses solidarity with Maduro for the transfer of the Venezuelan-Iranian plane to the US.

La Paz, Feb 12 (EFE).- The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales (2006-2019) expressed this Monday his solidarity with the Government of Nicolás Maduro regarding the transfer from Buenos Aires to the United States of the plane of the Venezuelan airline Emtrasur Cargo that It arrived in Argentina in June 2022 with Venezuelan and Iranian crew members suspected of espionage, and which the former ruler described as “robbery.”

“The theft of the Emtrasur plane, taken by the United States government from the Venezuelan people, is further proof that they have no respect for international law. We condemn this fact and stand in solidarity with the government of the brother president @NicolasMaduro” Morales wrote on the social network X.

The also leader of the government Movement towards Socialism (MAS), who was also a political ally of the late Hugo Chávez, added that “no action or aggression will weaken the Bolivarian Revolution.”

The Boeing 747 arrived this Monday in the southern district of Florida from the Buenos Aires International Airport, in the town of Ezeiza.

The aircraft was owned by the Iranian company Mahan Air and currently belongs to Emtrasur Cargo, a subsidiary of the Venezuelan state-owned Conviasa, companies that are sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury.

The plane arrived in Argentina on June 6, 2022 with a crew of five Iranians and fourteen Venezuelans, who were initially detained by the Argentine Justice and released due to lack of evidence in the crime of financing terrorist activities.

The Argentine Justice had ordered the confiscation of the plane at the beginning of this year in response to a request made in October 2022 by the Court of the District of Columbia of the United States, which asked the Argentine authorities to confiscate the aircraft, which is the subject of investigation. for possible links to international terrorism.

The justification for the claim by the United States is that it was an Iranian entity sanctioned by the Department of Commerce of the North American country that transferred the plane – made in the United States – to a third party, something prohibited precisely for the purposes of the sanction.

On February 11, the Argentine Government transferred custody of the aircraft to the United States in compliance with an order from the District of Columbia Court.

After learning that the aircraft left Buenos Aires this morning, the Government of Venezuela warned that it will give a “forceful, direct and proportionate response to this attack, for which it will use all available resources within the framework of the national Constitution, diplomacy and International right”.
