Evolve Additive Solutions announces a strategic partnership with alphacam in Germany. This gives European customers access to Evolve’s technology. Alphacam will be the first service provider in Europe to use this printing technology.
Evolve is busy rolling out the STEP printing technology: Selective Thermoplastic Electrophotographic Process. With this 3D printing technology, Evolve says it solves a number of limitations of other 3D printing techniques, namely accuracy, scalability and the use of engineering materials from the injection molding industry. The production platform prints completely dense thermoplastic components with a surface quality and mechanical properties that are close to those of injection molded parts.
Increasing demand for components
There is already a collaboration with Fathom Digtal Manufacturing for the American market. In Europe, Evolve Additive Solutions chooses the German alphacam. With the PartsFactory the supplier of 3D printers also offers services. “We are experiencing increasing demand for STEP parts in Europe, especially in automotive, consumer electronics, medical device and retail, as well as fluid and airflow applications,” said Jeff Hanson, Evolve’s Senior Vice President Go-to-Market . “Given their rich history and leadership in additive manufacturing, alphacam is the ideal partner to bring STEP technology to European industrial sectors.” Alphacam showed the new technology to customers for the first time during the second edition of alphacAM Expo, its own in-house show. Parts printed with STEP technology are directly available from the German service provider.
The same thermoplastics as injection molding
Steve Chillscyzn, founder of Evolve, has said from the beginning that to seriously consider additive manufacturing as a production technique, the same thermoplastic materials that are currently used for injection molding must be printed. Printing must then occur with the same speed, processing capacity and scalability. This is what Evolve aims to achieve with the SVP platform.
