Ex-Signa subsidiary Internetstores is threatened with closure

Insolvency administrator Christian Gerloff announced on Thursday that no viable offer had yet been presented in the search for investors to continue the business operations of Internetstores GmbH, which was part of the insolvent Signa Sports United (SSU).

Therefore, “measures to liquidate the business operations will be initiated in parallel with the ongoing negotiations”. According to current information, around 450 employees are affected. The situation is different for individual assets of the online retailer for bike and outdoor products such as trademark rights and inventory. There are a number of interested parties here.

Signa had turned off the money

The online sports retailer Signa Sports United (SSU), controlled by Tyrolean investor Rene Benko’s Signa Holding, slipped into bankruptcy last October. Signa had previously cut off the money supply to the listed company. As a result, SSU’s subsidiaries also got into trouble; on January 1, 2024, the Bielefeld district court opened insolvency proceedings for Internetstores GmbH, an umbrella company for online retailers such as Bikester or fahrrad.de.

Numerous Signa companies from Benko’s extensive empire have found themselves caught up in the maelstrom of bankruptcies. In addition to the Signa retail companies such as the Galeria department store group, Signa Holding and numerous real estate companies also had to go to insolvency court.
