Ex-Spartak football player Nikolai Rasskazov, who is currently a Krylya Sovetov player, responded to the death of the famous football commentator and TV presenter Vasily Utkin.
Let us recall that Utkin has repeatedly harshly criticized Rasskazov in the past. In particular, after the game “Spartak” – “Leicester” (3:4) in the Europa League in October 2021, Vasily, among other things, wrote the following in his Telegram channel: “The calls not to spread rot on Rasskazov are very annoying. What do you need? Find some positives in his performance against Leicester? I can’t, I tried the whole match, and not alone, but with my colleague Gusev, who just came on stream. He can’t play at this level. Is this bullshit? Should I feel sorry for the guy? Ok, the discussion thus reaches a new level through pity.”
And after the game “Zenit” – “Spartak” (7:1) in the same month, Utkin joked: “Apparently, the entire “Spartak” decided to stand up for Rasskazov: so that he is not the worst, everyone must play terribly.”
“There is no sadder story in football than the story of Rasskazov on the field,” Utkin also once wrote in his Telegram channel.
After Utkin’s death, Rasskazov published a touching message on social networks, making it clear that he was not offended by the commentator.
“With deep regret I learned about the death of Vasily Utkin, an outstanding modern Russian commentator and the smartest, erudite intellectual. Even though he could be critical of my performance on the football field, I always respected his opinion and believed that he had the right to his own, special point of view. His sharp mind, bright talent and extraordinary professionalism will leave an indelible mark on the history of Russian sports and all domestic journalism. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Vasily Utkin at this difficult moment. May his soul rest in peace, and we will forever preserve the good memory of him,” Rasskazov wrote.
