The Mons Council Chamber is examining, this Monday morning, a very sensitive case: that of the man who fatally hit a 9-year-old girl last week in Saint-Vaast, in the entity of La Louvière.
Initially, the 36-year-old driver fled just after the terrible accident which cost Assya his life. It was only 2 hours later that he was arrested by the police. The man has since been placed under arrest. He is monitored by an electronic bracelet, but he is in prison.

This Monday morning, his lawyer will request his release because of this bracelet imposed on him. The Chamber of the Council must therefore take a position on whether or not the driver should be kept in detention. For his lawyer, there is no reason to keep him behind bars. In question ? The purely and simply accidental nature of the drama.
However, there are elements working against this man: recidivism. He indeed has a long past behind the wheel. This driver is already known for several driving incidents. It has already been subject to license withdrawals.
The Chamber is expected to render its decision this Monday afternoon.
