Quebec Remparts head coach and general manager Patrick Roy was fined $5,000 and suspended for one game for his outburst of anger last Saturday.

As reported by The Journal of QuebecWednesday, the former goalkeeper was sanctioned by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for “unsportsmanlike conduct and inappropriate language in the media”.
Roy was expelled by referees Nicolas Dutil and Olivier Gouin late in the first period of the preseason duel against the Shawinigan Cataractes. Dissatisfied with the decision of the officials not to penalize an opposing player on a sequence, “Casseau” garlanded them, which led to his departure. However, he continued to invective the two men when leaving the bench.
On the sidelines of a training session on Tuesday, Roy nevertheless admitted his wrongdoing. “I fell into the trap and not nearly, like a lala baby. I had a lesson and it’s fine, ”he said according to comments broadcast by TVA Sports.
The relationship between the former number 33 and the QMJHL officials is certainly acrimonious, especially since the semi-final between the Remparts and the Cataractes last spring, the Mauricie club having had the last word.
Moreover, Roy had his share of recriminations with regard to Dutil and Gouin during the confrontation: the first had suffered the wrath of the head coach during the fourth match, while the second had imposed a penalty contested by the driver late in the fifth game, a decision that led to the decisive goal by Pierrick Dubé.
Also, the manager had criticized the work of the Courteau circuit’s head of refereeing, Richard Trottier, when he confirmed his return to the helm of the team in July. “It’s clear in my head that we need a change,” he said at the time.
The Remparts will play their next exhibition game on Friday against the Rimouski Océanic.
