“The Senj Wind Power Project has created a miracle, and Chinese engineers have created this miracle with us.” Zlatko Pulpic, chief engineer of the Senj Wind Power Project in Croatia, which was invested and constructed by a Chinese company, recently accepted an exclusive interview with a reporter from Xinhua News Agency explain.
The Seni Wind Power Project is invested and constructed by Northern International Cooperation Co., Ltd. (Northern International), a subsidiary of China North Industries Co., Ltd.. Construction started in November 2018 and will be put into operation in December 2021. The project can provide about 530 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity every year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 460,000 tons, providing a strong impetus for Croatia to promote energy transformation and develop a green economy.
Pulpic believes that the Seni wind power project is a miracle, because the construction conditions of the project are very difficult and complex, and Northern International completed an “almost impossible task” on time and with high quality. First of all, the project is located in a steep mountainous area, where extreme weather such as heavy snow, strong winds and thunderstorms often occurs; secondly, the project construction scale is large, and the wind turbine transportation and hoisting technology is difficult, and the wind turbine hoisting height can reach 100 meters; thirdly, the construction must comply with EU standards , which has strict requirements for the environment and wildlife protection. In addition, the new crown epidemic was encountered during the construction.
Pulpic said the Senj wind power project allowed him to realize his wish to build a wind power project in his hometown. As a native of Senj, he established a wind power design company in Senj more than 10 years ago and designed a wind power project plan. However, due to various reasons, the design remained on the drawing board until Northern International invested and undertook the construction of Senj. Wind power projects.
After the Seni wind power project was launched, he accepted the invitation from Northern International to serve as the chief engineer of the project and devoted himself wholeheartedly to the project.
Pulpic said that as a key project of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Senj Wind Power Project can be called a model project of mutually beneficial cooperation between Croatia and China. The project not only provides green power to the Senj region and even Croatia as a whole, and creates many local job opportunities, but also allows more than 40 Croatian companies participating in the project to gain valuable experience and enhance the competitiveness of the companies in the Croatian and even European markets.
Pulpic said that through the Senj wind power project, Northern International has demonstrated Chinese technology, Chinese quality and Chinese speed, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation between Croatia and China. Northern International also actively fulfills its corporate social responsibilities and integrates into the local community, gaining a good reputation in Senyi.
Years of getting along have allowed Pulpic to form deep friendships with his Chinese colleagues. During the construction years, some Chinese colleagues lived very close to his home. They often visited his home after get off work and had a few drinks when they were happy. Influenced by his Chinese colleagues, he fell in love with Chinese food and learned to use chopsticks.
Although Pulpic has reached retirement age, in view of his professionalism and dedication, the project team considered continuing to hire him as the project chief engineer to perform operation and maintenance tasks. Pulpic said he would continue working on the Seni wind power project as long as the work required it.
