Last week, we explained here that AirPods Pro with USB-C charging case they were more than just a revised version of Apple’s headphones. To the surprise of many, the model also came with a feature that is not available in the version whose case has a Lightning input: the ability to listen to audio Lossless when combined with the coming Apple Vision Pro.
Well, about a week after this controversy, Apple finally commented on the matter. In an interview given to YouTuber Brian Tong, Apple’s vice president of discovery and connectivity, Ron Huangand the company’s director of product marketing, Eric Treskidetailed the differences between the two versions of the AirPods Pro.
According to the executives, the H2 chip in models with a USB-C port runs at a band speed of 5GHz, compared to just 2.4GHz for the H2 chip that is present in models with Lightning. This higher speed, according to them, is what makes the latest headphones capable of reproducing lossless audio content.

This compatibility, however, only applies to the Apple Vision Pro, as neither of the two AirPods Pro revisions are capable of lossless music playback on an iPhone, iPad or Mac. This also means that Lightning models will still be unable to play audio in very high quality, as it is not a software issue.
The AirPods Pro with USB-C charging case, it is worth noting, began shipping to the first consumers today, alongside the new iPhones.
