Exemption from land register and lien registration fees applies from April

From April 1st, the exemption from land register and deposit registration fees applies to private property purchases up to a purchase price of 500,000 euros, the Real Estate Association in the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKÖ) announced on Friday. According to the chamber, property buyers would save up to 11,500 euros by eliminating fees.

Exemption ends June 30, 2026

The exemption is part of a government housing and construction package to boost the flagging construction and real estate sectors. It only applies when you create a main residence and is limited to two years. The exemption ends on June 30, 2026. Inherited or gifted real estate should not be included.

“So far, many potential buyers have waited or even withdrawn their offers to buy. The market stood still. Now there is clarity,” said Gerald Gollenz, chairman of the WKÖ real estate association, according to a press release.
