ST. MARTIN/NEUHAUS. A top-class duo opens up a musical perspective on the Baroque period during their performance in the Neuhauser Schlosskapelle.

The St. Martin cultural association Voi – Kultur am Markt is bringing “Fondo Barocco” to Neuhaus Castle on October 6th. In the perfect acoustics of the castle chapel, Marie Orsini-Rosenberg on the baroque cello and Herwig Neugebauer on the G violin ensure unique musical enjoyment.

The cello in particular enjoyed increasing popularity throughout Europe due to the frequent travel of Italian cello virtuosos and composers from Italy. The majority of the composers in the program were cellists themselves, the centers of their activity being Bologna, London and Vienna. Back then, accompanying a soloist with a single string instrument was already popular with traveling musicians. This resulted in various sound combinations, also through the special type of polyphonic accompaniment on a string instrument.

On the road as a duo since 2016

The duo continues this tradition. His program extends from compositions for violone around 1550 to the heyday of the Baroque cello sonata in the first half of the 18th century. “In 2016 we played our first program as a duo and were excited about the possibilities this line-up offers. The focus of our repertoire is on Italian Baroque and Renaissance music, but contemporary music also finds a place in our concerts,” the two musicians invite. They continually expand their duo with lutes or other melodic instruments (www.fondobarocco.at).
