The Delémont region is about to become a Mecca for the Deuchists. The 24th World Meeting of Friends of the 2CV will take place from July 25 to 30 around Le Violat, between Courrendlin and Vicques. The program of the event was presented on Tuesday. It includes concerts, a flea market, activities for children and competitions for the most beautiful find as well as a museum of the famous model designed by Citroën which will be located at the Croisée des Loisirs in Delémont. All activities will be free, except camping, and open to everyone. The organizers expect more than 4,000 vehicles from more than 30 countries and at least 8,000 people permanently present on each of the six days.

Pharaonic dimensions

The area of the site is gigantic: 53 hectares in total – or 75 football pitches – including a 3-hectare party place, a 43-hectare campsite and 7 hectares of parking. The fields were leased to five farmers. The budget for the event is around one million francs. The event is funded through registrations, camping and on-site drinks. The catering part will be provided by about fifteen foodtrucks, a large tent and a fondue tent.

A particular moment is announced, that of the beginning of the demonstration on Tuesday when it will be necessary to manage a large influx of vehicles. A check-in zone will be set up as well as load shedding zones, as Claude Hermans, vice-president of the association organizing the event, points out. Everything will work like a motorway toll with no less than 12 columns planned. It will also be possible to access the site thanks to a shuttle which will depart from Delémont eight times a day. The road between Vicques and Courrendlin will be closed to traffic – except for emergency vehicles – and reserved exclusively for the event.

The World Meeting of Friends of the 2CV was initially scheduled for 2021 in the Delémont region but was postponed due to the pandemic. The event represents a considerable opportunity for Jura Tourisme to present the region to a wide audience. Its director, Guillaume Lachat, sums it up in one word: exceptional. The event alone will generate approximately 10% of annual overnight stays in the canton of Jura over just six days. Jura Tourisme has invested heavily in hosting the event and intends to take advantage of it to show the canton in its best light, in particular thanks to an information stand set up in the heart of the place de fête. “It is, somewhere, a life-size communication campaign for the canton of Jura”, emphasizes Guillaume Lachat who notes that “the 2CV spirit” which is characterized by “conviviality, a sense of welcome and a sense of of the party” corresponds well with that of the Jurassians.

The 24th World Meeting of Friends of the CV is therefore from July 25 to 30 in the Delémont region. More information related to the official event website. This is the third time that Switzerland has hosted the event after Avenches in 1977 and Haslital in 1991. The first World Meeting of Friends of the 2CV was held in 1975 in Finland. /comm-fco
