Muscat: The Geminid meteor shower will be visible in Oman as well. The meteor shower phenomenon will be most visible between midnight Wednesday and early Thursday morning.
The month of December will witness several astronomical events, including the fall of the meteor shower known as Geminis, said Ibrahim Bin Mohammed Al Mahrooqi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Astronomical Society.
Meteors can be seen at all hours without moonlight. In 2020, members of the Omani Astronomical Society observed 1,063 meteors. Between 1 am and 1.59 am that morning, 227 meteors arrived in an hour.
This time too, it is expected that 120 meteors will be delivered per hour. Every year from December 7th to 17th, the remnants of this asteroid reach the Earth’s atmosphere. It is considered one of the astronomical phenomena that can be seen with the naked eye without the use of special observation equipment.
