At the Celtics, the almost reptilian – instinctive – joy immediately gives way to expectation. A few seconds in real life, an eternity for all the men decked out in green tunics. Then the explosion of joy, definitive, magnificent. A collegiate embrace for Derrick White, a city’s hero, from across the state of Massachusetts. The man who will perhaps allow the Celtics to go and have it with Denver. The man who makes the impossible possible.
On the Miami side, disbelief. That such a thing happened, there, before their eyes. Then a glimmer of hope. The hope that Derrick White touched the ball too late, that it was all a bad joke… And finally, the huge disappointment. Duncan Robinson on his knees, the Heat players staring into the floor.
