The campo de feria is ready. The small dishes are in the big ones. Around the Lachepaillet arenas in Bayonne, three days of bullfighting festivities will be the Feria de l’Atlantique from Friday August 31 to Sunday September 3, 2023. The event is eagerly awaited by aficionados who hope to vibrate to the rhythm of their passion, but without any certainty. Bulls are a bit like melons: you never know what’s inside. And without good bulls, no good bullfights. In any case, the ingredients will be gathered on the sand of the bayonnaise plaza with lots of good presentation, and it is therefore up to the maestros to delight the public.

The Bayonne cycle begins with a “goyesque blue” corrida. The color azure becomes the majority in the arenas and the bullfighters use costumes similar to those in force at the time of the painter Francisco de Goya : sequins are almost absent, the only decorations being embroidery. Faced with sic bulls from the ganaderia of Garcigrande, the Peruvian Andrés Roca Rey expected as the Messiah. At his side, two tricolor bullfighters. The Arlesian Juan Leal and the Nîmes Adrien Salenc “Adriano”. The latter has become used to triumphing in Bayonne and does not hide his impatience to do battle once again: “Bayonne is an arena very dear to my heart” insists the bullfighter. The bullfighting day of Saturday September 2 begins at 11 a.m. with a pricked novillada and it is still at 7 p.m. that the second bullfight will begin. Six bulls from Pedraza de Yeltes for six bullfighters: Morenito de Aranda, Joaquín Galdos, David de Miranda, Rafael Serna, Jorge Isiegas and El Rafi.
Finally on Sunday September 3, novillada without picadors at 11 a.m., then at 5.30 p.m. last race: six bulls from Zacarías Moreno (Madrid) for Manuel Escribano, who replaces Daniel Luque insufficiently recovered from injury in Puerto de Santa Maria on August 11, Emilio De Justo and Alejandro Mora’s alternative.
