Dr. Hossam Hosni, head of the Scientific Committee to Combat Corona, said that the current period requires rational caution, not panic, while commenting on the warning issued by the Ministry of Health and Population regarding the new Corona variant.
He added, during a telephone conversation with the “Hazrat Al-Citizen” program presented by journalist Sayed Ali, on the “Al-Hadath Al-Youm” screen, on Monday evening, that the statement issued by the ministry included a warning about the presence of a new variant that does not lead to an increase or difference in the symptoms known to Corona.
He pointed out that this mutant has the ability to spread and infect vaccine recipients who were vaccinated before 2023, explaining that this mutant does not affect the lower respiratory system and does not pose a significant risk to patients.
He explained that citizens must adhere to preventive measures such as social distancing, proper ventilation, and wearing masks, especially for those who show any symptoms.
The Ministry of Health has confirmed that it is following reports received from the World Health Organization, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and from health authorities in some countries around the world, about the discovery of a sub-strain of the interesting mutant “Omicron”, which has been named the “JN.1” mutant. .
She said in a statement that, according to the report issued by the World Health Organization, the prevalence of the 2.86.BA variant and its descendant strains, including 1.JN, amounted to about 37% of the total samples reported worldwide, while more than half of them were of the new variant. .
She added that no cases infected with the new variant, as well as 2.86.BA, have been discovered in Egypt so far.
