You’ve probably seen some financial market guru talking regarding options investing. This involves various terms and concepts such as derivatives, call, put, premium, strike price. As a result, series of stock options are identified by the letters of the underlying asset, including the letter that indicates the month of expiration and whether it is a call or put option, and also a number that informs the strike price.
Typically, stock options expire on the third Monday of each month. However, when there is no trading floor, the expiration date will be on the following business day. It is on this day that the contract expires and thus loses its market value.
It is important to keep in mind that only options can be traded up to the day before expiration.
