Explorers face extreme climates for science

European explorers on the Deep Climate mission face the rigors of extreme climates under the magnifying glass of scientists.

After a 40-day immersion in the Amazon and a stay in northern Finland, around twenty men and women began a 40-day walk in the Saudi Arabian desert.

These adventurers thus go from the polar cold to the heat wave of the desert and from humidity to dry weather, under the eye of scientists who observe how they react to climatic conditions.

The ten women and ten men have already traveled the Amazon at the end of 2022, before facing the rigors of the extreme cold in Lapland, the northernmost region of Finland, last March.

Now, the adventure leads these exploiters to Saudi Arabia where they will walk for 40 days, each pulling a cart, according to what “Ouest-France” reported on Wednesday.

“We observe how they adapt, individually and socially,” said explorer and researcher Christian Clot, founder of the Human Adaptation Institute.

“These expeditions make it possible to study humans immersed in difficult conditions”, explained the Franco-Swiss researcher to the French newspaper.
