Exploring India’s Culture, Yoga, and Inner Engineering with Sadhguru: A Spiritual Adventure

2023-06-09 09:20:16

I have been linked to the world of yoga for almost a decade and to India. The cradle of this discipline was always on my must do list. Finally, the stars aligned and I was able to live this experience when the opportunity presented itself to attend the Mahashivaratri Festival and the Inner Engineering Retreat in Coimbatore, in the south of the country, in the state of Tamil Nadu, taught by the great mystic, yogi and visionary Sadhguru.

I was able to travel a little north and a little south. I say “little” because it takes months to get to know in depth that universe of temples, colorful silk and cashmere clothing, gods with unpronounceable names, magnificent craftsmen, music to the rhythm of the sitar or the bansuri (alto transverse flute originating from India and Pakistan), dance and spices. Also history and struggle between the Mewar and Mughal (Mughal) empires. The latter worked to reconcile the Hindu and Muslim religions in favor of unity. His strong influence is evident in architecture with a Hindu character and Islamic features (Indo-Islamic), sometimes the opposite.

One of the four main paths or paths of yoga is bhakti yoga, the path of devotion motivated mainly by the force of love, through which we experience that indissoluble union – “we are all one” – between human beings, but also the interconnection with nature and with our environment. It is the manifestation of love for the divine, the Supreme Being, the superior consciousness that transcends us.

India embodies the term bhakti in all its expression, from the volunteers who received us at the Isha Yoga Center, to those who with such mastery and passion prepared the daily, organic and vegetarian meals, without any retribution beyond this dedication and unconditional love. .

Mahashivaratri is an all-night Hindu festival that attracts 300,000 national and international spectators. It is broadcast live, with guided meditations by Sadhguru and spectacular music and dance performances by renowned artists. It is an appointment that annually celebrates the Grace of Shiva, who is considered the Adiyogi, the first yogi of all time.

This year it took place on February 18, the darkest night of the year and translates into a powerful increase in energy in the human system.

There are no words that explain or can reflect the magic of what was experienced that night before the majesty of a 34-meter-tall Shiva, recognized as the largest bust in the world, with unimaginable audiovisual projections and, at his feet, the performance of musicians and dancers in unison, energy that was intermingled with an audience fervent with joy, faith and devotion. A privileged occasion for anyone on their spiritual quest to experience an awakening, inner peace and stillness by listening to Sadhguru’s wise words.

TECHNOLOGY FOR WELLBEING

I had the privilege of attending the Inner Engineering Retreat, a four-day immersion that offers wellness technology derived from the science of yoga. A comprehensive course for personal growth that generates a change in the way in which existence and the world in which you live are perceived and experienced.

The initiation to the powerful ancestral technique Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya it has a direct impact on the energy level, self-transformation and personal growth. It is accompanied by nature walks, team sports, live music, healthy meals in silence as part of a training focused on introspection and self-observation.

According to Sadhguru, “just as there is science and technology to create external well-being, there is a whole dimension of science and technology for inner well-being.”

At Isha Yoga Center all this magic happens. It is the perfect paradise, a haven of peace and inner worship, an open and inclusive meditation oasis, with a very strong and high vibration in a jungle environment where even the monkeys like to listen to the talks.

The volunteers and monks, professionally highly trained and from all latitudes of the planet, strive to transmit the knowledge and tools, carefully guarded by an ancestral lineage of teachers, in the purest and most traditional way, with the bhakti and gratitude as a mantra accompany you in this process even after the end of the course.

For Sadhguru, “a human being is a cosmos in itself, if you get to know this piece of life absolutely, then you already know everything you need to know about existence.”

How do you sum up India? they asked me on my return. Judging of course by my experience, which is still biased by the personal experience and the girlish eyes of a tourist in a remote, exotic and picturesque country, where you don’t fully understand how daily life goes by. common citizen in visible and precarious health conditions, without social guarantees, without sufficient economic resources… This experience has made me question the way I see the world and how I conceive through my personal lens that system of beliefs and thought patterns acquired and even taxes.

What if what we admit as precariousness and limitations is sufficient and gratifying for many who consider a simpler, more spiritual and balanced life, with fewer demands and ambitions typical of the Western world, where we have been educated to reach everything and everything? coast, compromising our well-being, health and inner peace?

I am captivated by the beauty of the contrasts of its people, of its simplicity, of the simple things, of humanity and spirituality, of vitality, strength and unwavering faith. I am left with something deep inside, deep and inspiring: the human quality and the faith that moves mountains, despite the apparent chaos and misery, always in peaceful coexistence, the legacy of a great sage like Mahatma Gandhi. Respect and love always prevail.
