Fatema Mernissi is the name of the Moroccan sociologist and feminist who inspired this play and in particular “Rêves de femmes” whose incipit we hear at the opening of the show: “I was born in a harem in Fez“. These houses which enclose the women constitute the common thread of the show from a personal point of view but also sociological and cultural. We will thus have confirmation that the oriental harems have nothing to do with those represented by the ‘West.

It is also the place of women in societies that is in question. This is approached with sensitivity and firmness by the two performers Amal Ayouch and Sanae Assif. They are located in the center of the uncluttered scenic device, seated at a table facing the public in front of a screen which offers a chromatic variation. We let ourselves be carried away by their words, visualizing the scenes told, such as the Scheherazades which are also discussed in the play. Both the stories and the theses they defend keep us spellbound throughout the performance!
