A remotely operated vehicle is currently being dispatched to the Titan debris site, a spokesperson for Pelagic Research Services told CNN.
The remotely operated vehicle Odysseus 6, which discovered the submersible’s “debris field”, began its mission in the late morning local time and will take about an hour to reach the site. This is the second mission of the Odysseus 6.
The spokesperson said any attempt to recover items from the debris field would require a large-scale operation, as the parts would be too heavy for the vehicle to lift on its own.
An open investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has opened an investigation into the fatal incident. A team of investigators is currently traveling to Newfoundland to gather information and conduct interviews.
