The Ukrainian army said that the explosion of the “Nova Kakhovka” dam will not impede the field progress of its forces.

This comes amid conflicting expectations about the impact of today’s incident on Ukraine’s counter-attack, which the Kiev authorities are keen not to reveal any related details.

Moments after the partial collapse occurred, the Southern Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said, on Tuesday, that Russian forces blew up the Nova Kakhovka Dam located in the Russian-controlled parts of the Kherson region.

The command added on its Facebook page: “The extent of the destruction, the speed and quantities of water, and the areas likely to be flooded are being determined.”

On the other hand, the head of the Novaya Kakhovka city administration, Vladimir Leontyev, announced that the incident was the result of the daily strikes on it by the Ukrainian forces, which continued for nearly a year.

Leontiev said in the broadcast of “Channel One”, today, Tuesday: “The Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station was bombed every day and many times, we were able to repair the road twice a day, and the amount of ammunition fired in the direction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station and the city exceeds all reasonable limits, there was A day during which more than 70 HIMARS missiles were fired at the Kakhovskaya station.

“One thing is clear: today’s tragedy is the result of one last serious strike, which was carried out at two o’clock this morning on Tuesday,” he added.

In the context, the acting governor of Kherson province, Vladimir Saldo, said that the Ukrainian forces bombed the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station in order to divert attention from the failures in the “counter-offensive”.

Saldo stressed that the Ukrainian forces bombed and destroyed the plant with the aim of striking food security in the Russian province of Kherson.
