Explosion kills two minors in Quilengues – news

Two children died and five others were injured, all from the same family, as a result of the explosion of an 82 mm mortar projectile, in the commune of Dinde, municipality of Quilengues, in the province of Huíla.

The information was provided to ANGOP, in Lubango, yesterday, Monday, by the acting spokesperson for the provincial department of the National Demining Center (CND) of Huíla, Fernando Catiavala, who stated that they were minors aged between six and the 13 years.

According to the spokesperson, according to a note they received from the Municipal Command of the National Police in Quilengues, about the incident, it happened at the beginning of the month, 80 kilometers from the municipal headquarters, around 5 pm, when the Victims found the explosive device on the outskirts of the neighborhood where they live and decided to open it.

He highlighted that the fatalities include a 13-year-old child who died on the spot and another eight-year-old who, after the incident, was taken to the Lubango Central Hospital, where she ended up dying a day later, given the severity of her injuries and the remaining injured already are out of danger and continue treatment at home.

Fernando Catiavala asked parents and guardians to take more care of children, as they have been the biggest victims in mine incidents.

This case brings the number of mine incidents to five, four of which resulted in deaths, in the municipalities of Lubango, Matala, Gambos and Quilengues.
