External signs of vitamin D deficiency

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

It used to be thought that vitamin D deficiency was only dangerous for children. However, now scientists are sounding the alarm: hypovitaminosis in adults leads to weakened immunity, chronic diseases and even oncology. Read in the Rambler material: what external signs will indicate a vitamin D deficiency in the body.

Deficiency of this vitamin may not manifest itself for a long time. And very often, doctors write off the complaints of patients for seasonal or chronic diseases. Since vitamin D affects the state of the body’s skeletal system, the appearance of a waddling or waddling gait should alert. Perhaps the lack of trace elements led to the occurrence of osteomalacia – “softening” of the bones. In the early stages, this condition may only be visible on x-rays (or other non-invasive diagnostic tests).

Also, the external manifestations of hypovitaminosis include:

  • sweating of the hands;
  • deterioration in the condition of the nails (dullness, fragility, brittleness);
  • itching and dry skin;
  • the appearance of slowly healing wounds;
  • hair loss and brittleness;
  • poor quality of sleep, lack of feeling of freshness following a good night’s rest;
  • impaired perception (smell and taste) in adults and the elderly;
  • aching pain in the feet;
  • pain in the muscles, not associated with physical activity.

If you or your loved ones are experiencing several of the symptoms on the list, you should probably see a doctor and get a blood test to check the level of the solar vitamin in the body.
