F1 Australian Grand Prix: 2022 will set up four DRS zones, the largest number in history[F1-Gate .com]

The Albert Park Circuit, which will be the setting for the 2022 F1 Round 3 Australian Grand Prix, will have four DRS zones, the largest number in F1 history.

Previously, the Albert Park Circuit had three DRS zones, but with some changes to the truck towards 2022, the DRS zones have been expanded to four. However, despite the addition of the DRS zone, there are only two detection points.

The first DRS detection point is behind turn 6 and serves the DRS zone between turns 8 and 9, and between turns 10 and 11.

In 2022, the chicane that made up turns 9 and 10 was removed. This means that the driver can use DRS to attack at full speed towards the current turn 9 and turn 10 high speed left / right sequences. You can then use DRS again between Turn 10 and Turn 11.

Further on the lap, the second detection point is placed before the penultimate corner. This corresponds to the DRS used on the start / finish straights and the straights between turns 2 and 3.

F1 will race at Albert Park for the first time since 2019 as the 2020 and 2021 rounds have been canceled due to the new coronavirus.

In addition to removing slow chicane in the middle sector, some corners have been expanded to improve overtaking.

F1 introduced a ground effect car in 2022 to promote overtaking, but DRS (Drag Reduction System) has proven to remain a useful overtaking auxiliary device. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc played a fierce bargain at the F1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix over a DRS that could be used within a second of the preceding machine at the detection point.
