F1: Gerhard Berger invites Fernando Alonso to DTM[F1-Gate .com]

Gerhard Berger, the head of DTM, said that Fernando Alonso’s participation was the biggest target and he had verbally agreed to participate in the future.

Two-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso has experienced various non-F1 categories such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 24 Hours of Daytona, the Indy 500 and the Dakar Rally.

Fernando Alonso has never participated in the DTM (German Touring Car Championship), but the series boss Gerhard Berger is eager to participate in Alonso.

Fernando Alonso is currently in his second season returning to F1 from the Alpine F1 Team and will expire at the end of this season, but is expected to extend the contract after next season.

Gerhard Berger Berger says Fernando Alonso says he will one day enter the DTM.

“He told me,’I have to do a few other things first,’ but he will join us someday,” Gerhard Berger told F1-Insider.

Fernando Alonso isn’t the only F1 driver in 2022 that Gerhard Berger wants to bring to DTM.

Nico Hulkenberg replaced Sebastian Vettel twice on the Aston Martin F1 team early in the 2022 season. It impressed Gerhard Berger, given that Hülkenberg had not been actively racing in another series before that.

“Hülkenberg is at the top of my wishlist,” Gerhard Berger confirmed.

“Although he was on the couch, he eventually replaced Sebastian Vettel in the best possible way in F1.

As for Sebastian Vettel, Gerhard Berger says he is interested in working with four F1 World Champions, but not necessarily on the driving side.

Instead, he thinks “smart” Sebastian Vettel will be a great “partner” in the series.

“I want to partner with Sebastian,” said Gerhard Berger.

“He’s a smart guy and I think he’ll need more work than racing in the future.”

Gerhard Berger, who participated in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, revealed the name of a former F1 driver who was interested in DTM.

“It’s 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve. He also wants to start with DTM,” Gerhard Berger said.

“Same for Felipe Massa.”
