Yamaha RACERS, Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins test their motorbikes at the Portiamao Circuit, Portugal.

During the trial, Quartararo complained about the weather which meant he could only do six laps.

“The worst conditions for carrying out the test. Only six laps were carried out,” said Quartararo, quoted from Crash.

The trial was carried out after Yamaha’s poor results in the opening races. Quartararo also welcomed the trial and said that it was necessary to test several components.

However, Quartararo was reluctant to explain further about what components were being tested this time.

“It looks like we have a lot of things to test. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said.

“I don’t know if I can say it, so I prefer not to say it,” he added.

The struggling Japanese manufacturer was only able to carry out official tests 24 hours after the Portuguese GP as part of this year’s revised concession rules.

The teams in the lowest performance category, currently Yamaha and Honda, are entitled to additional days to develop their motorbikes.

However, due to weather problems, Yamaha basically wasted one of their test days.

Interestingly, despite the gloom surrounding Yamaha’s competitiveness, they performed well in Portimao.

Quartararo was seventh in the Portuguese GP and ninth in the Sprint Race. Rins was 13th at the Portygal GP, but could not finish the Sprint Race.

The test was also an important opportunity for Yamaha to prove to Quartararo what their plans were for the bike. Because Yamaha’s contract with Quartararo will end at the end of this season. (Z-1)
