On Monday, the social networking site “Facebook” reinstated the official page of the Russian Foreign Ministry, which was suspended on Friday, due to the publication of “illegal content”, following official protests from Moscow.
“Our account has been restored,” the head of the Russian mission in Vienna, Konstantin Gavrilov, said, explaining that the mission’s official page was working once more, following the intervention of the “Roskomnadzor” authority, which regulates communications in Russia.
“We have not received any explanation” from California’s Internet giant Meta and owner of Facebook, Gavrilov was quoted as saying by Russian press agencies.
On Sunday, Roskomnadzor indicated that it had sent a letter to Meta, asking it to “immediately lift restrictions on the official account” of the Russian mission in Vienna tasked with the task of arms control talks.
Roskomnadzor considered that the suspension of this account is an act of censorship, and it violates the basic principle of freedom of information transmission.
This page was taken down Friday on charges of publishing “illegal content,” Gavrilov said.
