Faith and disbelief is not a criterion for depression

The brief

Dr. Nabil Al-Qat, a mental health consultant, revealed, during his meeting on the Tahrir Hall program broadcast on Sada Al-Balad channel, today, Wednesday, that the media, Azza Mustafa, presented the fact that the lack of religious faith in humans is a basic criterion for depression.

The mental health consultant stressed the introduction that faith and lack of faith are not a criterion for depression, adding that lack of faith in itself does not lead to mental illness.

Dr. Nabil Al-Qat warned against blaming the depressed for his lack of faith, saying: “We must pay attention that we cannot tell the depressed that if you pray, you will be good, or if your faith remains strong, you will remain good, because the depressed person blames himself, but it is necessary to sympathize with him.”

Dr. Nabil Al-Qat pointed out that the winter season is the season most susceptible to depression, adding that all nature is depressed in the winter season, such as trees and some organisms hibernate, because the light cycle in the universe decreases and living organisms interact with it.

The mental health consultant pointed out that women are more likely than men to suffer from depression, due to the changing nature of their bodies, which is similar to nature in its change, adding that peoples living in extreme regions of the globe are more susceptible to depression.
