Anand Indian Cuisine officially opened its doors on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, bringing a new wave of Southern and Northern Indian dining to 1109 38th St. S. in Fargo, just steps away from West Acres. Taking over the former Himalayan Yak location, the independent, family-owned restaurant follows months of intensive renovations by the owners to completely transform the interior space into a calm, neutral-toned dining room featuring brown leather booths, quartz countertops, and cultural decor.
The establishment is operated by co-owner Simi Kaur alongside her family, who are well-established in the regional culinary scene (InForum). The family’s restaurant roots trace back to 2021 when relatives opened House of Punjab in Grand Forks, an eatery that continues to operate today. By expanding into Fargo, the family is able to draw on years of combined hospitality and kitchen experience while introducing a broader regional menu to a larger market.
“Grand Forks, it’s been good, but here’s a bigger town with some more options,” co-owner Paramjit Singh said regarding the expansion (InForum).
Menu Offerings and Kitchen Operations
The kitchen at Anand Indian Cuisine blends traditional techniques with a diverse selection of dishes spanning both Northern and Southern Indian culinary traditions. Diners can choose from a full menu available for lunch and dinner, featuring appetizers, kebabs prepared in a tandoori clay oven, slow-simmered gravies, and saffron-layered biryani (Anand Fargo). Additionally, the restaurant offers an all-day rotating buffet that shifts according to the kitchen’s daily selection.
Behind the scenes, the business is a true multi-generational family enterprise. While Kaur handles background operations—including website design, vendor coordination, and point-of-sale systems—her cousins and uncle anchor the kitchen operations, preparing items like fresh naan dough, purees, sauces, and traditional kulfi ice cream (InForum).
“My cousins and my uncle, they’re the ones cooking in the back — they’re like the foundation of this place,” Kaur noted of the kitchen team (InForum).
Atmosphere and Design
Derived from a Punjabi word associated with peace and bliss, the name Anand guides the interior aesthetic of the restaurant. The family opted for neutral tones and soothing browns complemented by red-painted ceiling fixtures and brown hanging lights to create a welcoming environment for guests (InForum).

Although the exterior of the building on 38th Street South still displays the signage from the previous occupant, the interior has been entirely gutted and rebuilt by family members over a two-month renovation period (InForum). The space now serves diners looking for both casual buffet dining and sit-down meals near one of Fargo’s busiest retail districts.
